. . . there's not enough sustained writing for the strings for me to tell whether what I'm hearing is a special effect he's using just for certain spots (and that would be OK), or is a pervasive (and, as I say, perverse) mannerism of the whole performance. I'll have an update later today when I'm able to listen to the whole album.
