If the packaging or the CD do not say "HDCD," the CD may be some retailer's definition of "super audiophile," but it's not HDCD, which is a specific encoding/decoding system developed by Pacific Microsonics. Reference Recordings' CD's for the last several years have been HDCD-encoded (recording engineer Keith O. Johnson is in fact one of HDCD's developers), and you may find select CD's from a few other labels also so processed.There are differing opinions on what HDCD brings to the table. A couple that I like are fairly recent Reference Recordings CD's..."Ports of Call" and "Copland 100"...but that's as much (or more) because of the music itself.
