Pat-

All PAS3's and 3x's have the green caps, so this is not how you can tell the difference. The PAS3x's had special tone controls that were marked on the rear with Dynaco's part # with "x" after it. They also had a 1.0 uF cap from the bass tone controls to the PC-5 board which is not in the 3's and is shown on the schematic of the x's and not on the 3's. Another quick way to tell(if your unit has not had parts replaced)is that the x's had two cleanout ports on the tone controls while the 3's had only one.

I've had several of both and this is what I've found.
