There doesn't need to be any public mud-slinging but a simple acknowledgement that a serious miscalculation in judgement took place- the issue is now widely known- would signal that they took the issue seriously.
We are left assuming-at best-that they get how damaging this type of behaviour is to the integrity of the high end. Mistakes can be made-how you deal with them is an indicator of your character. Some things simply can't be adequately dealt with behind closed doors.
