RE: M3 Phono - loading

Paul(same name as mine),

I am not all that familiar with changing the loading on your phono preamp but if it sounds good with 47K why not leave it alone? Just because the manufacturer suggests a 100R load doesn't necessarily mean it's used. With that being said, loading is a suggestive rolloff of certain signals to make the cartridge stay within a certain sonic frequency response. Sorta like a brake on cars. It tells the cartridge where to stop.

Now with that being said, find the 47K loading resistor and put the 100R resistor right across it. It then becomes a 100R load. See how it sounds but it will be much lower in volume, so be prepared for that.

After you try a 100R resistor go to a 1K ohm resistor and try it. See how that sounds.

Koetsu requires a 100R loading but it did sound better in my system with a 1K ohm load.

You can play but in the end forget about what the manufacturer suggests and see how it sounds.
