A tube-friendly speaker has an electrical load curve (impedance vs. frequency) that has the following characteristics:
1. relatively high impedance across all frequencies
2. no sharp negative phase angles (first derivative of the electrical load curve)
3. is not reactive (impedance is not a function of frequency)
Most 2-way monitors have all 3, esp. the LS3/5A models and its close cousins. Big, multi-driver speakers generally do not have 1 and 2.
Notice that i did not mention sensitivity. It's not that important. LS3/5As are only 82-83dB sensitive. Of course, if you like your music loud or have a big room, sensitivity is important.
