Interesting. A while back I talked to the same Cary support guy as I did before and this time he told me to put the 6SN7 tubes in "the other" two positions (i.e., the back ones, nearest to the rear panel inputs) from where I was told to put them initially.
I did, it made a significant difference. The SLI-80 volume control is now up at the 10 o'clock to 10:30 positions for jazz on vinyl.
