Question about used Cary SLP-05 for sale listings

Why does practically every Ebay and Audiogon listing for Cary SLP-05 preamps show a generic brochure photo instead of a real photo? Is there some gray market or surplus inventory for these or something? My Spidey-sense is going off on these.
