Sound issue using analog from DVD to preamp

Usually I use XLR analog connection from my CD player to preamp/processor (krell A+VS), and for DVD player I use digital RCA connection. Recently I changed the connection for DVD and use analog RCA to preamp. I noticed sound degradation when I listen to my CD player (even I didn't change its XLR connection) and other sources like Tuner and turntable. So change my DVD connection to previous which was digital RCA and the sound become good as before.

I want to know why this happened ? Is the problem from preamp or nature of DVD player when using analog connection.
