Find some of that heavy clear vinyl carpet protector. The kind with small spikes on one side so that the vinyl stays in position on top of the carpet in heavy traffic areas.
Use it as a wall around the panels base. You may be able to halve the height and make it less visible. Make sure to double wrap so it has some rigidity and use a paper dog clip to hold the end in.
This works around my Tympani IV's and yes a male cat has piss))$d on the vinyl but missed the panels! Unfortunately clean up is still an unpleasant part of the process.
