I prefer to replace that external crossover with an active line level crossover. You need four channels of power amplification and a crossover tailored for your speakers. The effiency of the bass will be slighty improved, less power needed.
Off the shelf active crossovers that do this are rare and/or expensive. DIY or letting someone build it for you is the way to go.
The original external crossover contains lower quality components. Building a similar one with higher grade components is rather expensive and still not up to the active solution sonicly.
