Looking to get into vinyl. Planning on getting a MMF TT. Need budget phono stage first. Associated system is as follows:

B&W 803sII speakers
Merridian 506 cd
Cary SLP-30 preamp (modifyed to use 6SN& tubes)
Pass 3 amp

Prefer a warmer, laid back sound as oposed to a foward one.

Any advise is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Since you have a Cary preamp. You should be aware that Cary makes two tubed phono stages, I don't know how good they are, but why not audition them ? There's the Leman Black Box, which has had good reviews.
I'm useing the AcousTech PH-l with my brand-new used "Reference Line" passive mod.2000 preamp with my VTL Renasance 75 amp/Spendor SP-100 speakers. Played on my new Rega 25 TT with Clearaudio Aurum beta S mm. cart. -Very satisfied.
Also, I might add E.A.R. has a good phonostage, there's the AR PH-3 which is ecceptional for around $1500.00 and Pass make a phonostage that "Listner" swears is the best, for $2000.00. All depends on how much you want to invest.

Here's a suggestion. Buy a used AA Vac-in-the-box. Since AA is no longer in business, I guess that all VITB are "used". I think it would mate well with your Music Hall and Cary. A little hard to find, but pricing is normally in the range $100 to $150, depending on condition. Sound quality is smooth and all the adjustments are there for MM/MC cartridges.

Try www.vacuumtube.com They have tubed phono-stages from 350-500$ They seem like they would do the job well. I would advise you not to get a MMF turntable. Some people are beggining to talk of a "wobbly platyter' or other platter problems. For around the same price the NAD 533 has a better arm, better build and can take some good carts, I'd look at the NAD. It is basicaly a Rega Planar2. I have an NAD pp-1 I bought for 129$. It works well Sterepohile gave it some praise.

It is not that your address is not correct, when I click on your highlighted name, nothing happens. I will go higher than 75.00, if you want to call me @ 804-832-5079 7:00-3:30 EST.

Nothing happens because your browser isn't linked to your email client. Me too. In that case, go to 'View', and 'Page Source' for Netscape, IE is similar. Then look about 14 lines down for:

The piece after 'mailto:' is what you want: meimorgan@msn.com

Since you're getting the Music Hall MMF-2, I would recommend the phono pre-amp Music Hall also makes, the MMF-1. It should be less than $100. The two should be a good match

I finally gotten the Vac-In-The-Box all together, and all is there in new condition: the original carton, diagram, instructions etc. It is set for mm. now, but for mc. impedence all you have to do is move a couple pegs around, following the instructions. I would like $100.00 for it, plus $5.00 for first class delivery. If interested, better call me direct: (206)-322-2631. Ask for J.P.
