The sound stage in fantastic. Unfortunately, I'm a bit wiped up and can't get to my 4000 LPs.....which are buried behind about 30 boxes and 8 guitar hard shell cases. I do have my Helikon Mono cartridge and my stereo Shelter 5000 affixed to my two TTs. My 9 Tera bits of music digital files and the SACD player are working quiet well...........but I miss those big slabs vinyl.

It's just nice to get back on Vinyl Asylum. Are there any Behamers hanging about????

Take Care Gentlemen, Tom B.

To avoid possible tripping over wires and leaning over equipment, maybe you could turn that equipment rack 90° so it faces the left wall.

One of the worst places to put a rack of audio equipment is in between the loudspeakers. Not only will reflections of the sound play havoc with proper stereo imaging but there is also a psychological effect. Our eyes are considerably more dominant than our ears and such a setup easily results in our "hearing" the sound as emanating from the equipment rather than from the illusion intended.

For some placing their equipment in such a location cannot be avoided for space reasons. For those who have that situation it is preferable if the total height of the equipment stack does not exceed the lower 30% of the speaker or speaker and stand.

In the OP's case there appears to be good location at the side of the sofa. Yes this may mean a slighly longer run of speaker wire but I guarantee to him that the result will be worth it.

Bellingham. Nice place I recall. The OP is near to MikeL then ( though he rarely posts here these days). BTW there is another Bellingham about 2 miles away from from me - in London UK.

Good to see you, Tom. Looks like you've got a cozy place to listen there. When you unpack the boxes, just think of all the LPs you'll find that you'd forgotten you had! Sure to be good stuff for posting pics!

BTW, what turntables are you running now? I don't believe I see your trusty Nottingham in the photo.

Can you tell us about the speakers? What do you like about them? Nice room! NT, posted on February 27, 2017 at 19:47:03

Here's the low down on the speakers......

They're single drivers built by the late great Terry Cain. The "pipe" is 6 ft high and made of Alder. The Fostex driver is quite sensitive at 96 db and is a perfect match for my 3 Watt "Flea-powered" 2A3 Single Ended Triode mono amps. My SS amp is an incredibly well built DIY of a Nelson Pass F-5 power amp that he introduced with his small start-up "First Watt". The production model puts out 25 Watts, but the dude that made this particular unit beefed up the huge caps producing 36 Watts! It sound's almost as warm through the Terry Cain "Abby" single drivers as the 2A3s, which is amazing. Nelson makes some great amps!

The sound is very warm and open. Over the years I've come to realize that I prefer tone presentation over increased detail. I have some conventional two-way monitors compliments of a pair of Coincident Triumph IIs that image like crazy, but they lack that beautiful tone.

Yeah....I love the room as well.....14' x 24'.

Ciao, Tom B.

Kind Sir,

Damn, I'm beginning to think your advice is getting to me. In the past, I've had many instances when I had my rack on the side wall being far from the speakers. I've simply forgotten the difference in sound stage presentation. I'd prefer to place it in the left corner. There is plenty of space to pull it off. Thanks' for the reminder.

Regards, Tom B.
