Hi,

Willing to build new TT out of TD125 Mkii chassis. My idea is to fit it into new plinth, armboard, and add SME3009 arm.

I'm wondering which material should I choose for a plinth. I'm considering either MDF or stone one. My choice for now is http://m.ebay.de/itm/331959247803 . It looks awesome, but am not sure whether it will sound good as well... Do you have any experiences with such kind of solutions?

For armboard I consider to get one of those:

Again, it seems that stone would be the best as it would be perfect isolation for the tonearm, but maybe I'm wrong...

I would encourage that the plinth/Chassis be an amalgam of materials-
HDF with corian/sheet metal/stone-tile...

The arm board sounds great!
Happy Listening

MDF is one of the best materials to use. If you combine it with another material, aluminum, carbon fiber or stainless steel, ala, a sandwich, that would be even better.

Stone resonance frequencies can be problematic if not controlled properly. I have had great success using 3 to 6mm carbon fiber for arm boards. Again, you can make a sandwich using two sheets of carbon and balsa-wood in the middle.

Recently, I used solid cherry and maple as plinths, instead of MDF, and both worked extremely well. They both look fantastic, too.
