I hated the cables sprouting straight up from the chasis.

So how do you like the Budgie compared to the Schitt Mani you had previously?

Still have both. Strictly on sonics, a no-brainer. Budgie all the way., posted on February 18, 2017 at 04:04:54

The Mani is, by far, the best under $200 phono preamp I've found when you consider it's gain/loading flexibility. Sonically, I'd rate it and the Hagerman Bugle 2 a tossup. Being a tube preamp, the Budgie is a chameleon. Warm and rich with the Matsushita 7DJ8s. Clean and detailed with the stock EH 6922s.

Did adding the extra connectors change the sound at all?

Not that I can tell. /nt\, posted on February 18, 2017 at 09:22:46

I've got mine so they go straight up, I like it that way.

Strange, I've emailed parks audio twice through their website about using the 7DJ8 in the Budgie and have had no reply.

"Now about that Dust, !!!

Soundstage is more defined than the stock tubes and overall I find teh tonal balance better, bass is much more extended.

However, you will notice it was not on the Budgie, but a lamp nearby. I "Swiffer" the components daily.

I'll agree the bass via the 7DJ8s is superior., posted on February 19, 2017 at 06:10:30

However, I found the upper mids a bit "thick" and the highs not as crystalline as the stock EH 6922s.

I'm thinking about getting the Budgie myself. Where did you get your 7DJ8's? Thanks.

Maybe so, but in my system the +s outweighed a maybe slight darkness in the mids that with my speakers gave more body to the sound that I found quite pleasant. I've always been more interested in "beauty" than in "truth" but only in moderation.

Sounds reasonable. My speakers (Elac debut B6s) have a tendancy, posted on February 20, 2017 at 05:34:55

toward a bit dark upper midrange to begin with, plus a bit of reticense on top. My previous speakers, Maggies had gobs of treble and maybe a touch of thinness in the upper mids. The 7DJ8s would have been a perfect match for them.
