I picked up this microscope at our local thrift store yesterday. It's a single power X40 unit. The optics are all glass and the image quality excellent. My stylus inspections have moved to a whole new level.

 If you're really into it, you can probably purchase higher power eyepieces to multiply the power of the microscope!

Damn, I paid $75 for mine. Still worth it though; stylus examinations are a lot better using these things.

 Having used this scope for the last two days, I would pay $75.00 for one in a heartbeat. I like the fact that the focal length is 6 cm which means the objective lens never comes anywhere near the stylus assembly.

 i would rig up a way to shine light at the stylus side ridges to reveal the extent of wear.
