I belive this to be true (yes, even the parts that are gibberish). The statement about the "certain warmth of tone that is felt and sensed rather than heard" is entirely real and scrupulously verifiable. And I do wish everything was recorded on Ampex 350's, then cut on Scully or Neumann lathes, by somebody with an ear, which would ADVANCE the cause of recorded music 50 years. What a world it would be! ;-)

Scanned from inside the album "Audio Fidelity Stereo Demonstration and Sound Effects"- a real hit here in the Bearcave.

I listened to some records from late 50's, early 60, and even some recent digital of 1957 recordings. They were on to something back then that even could no longer be captured during the 70's (probably from the switch to solid state). What a shame, the move to digital recording in the 1980's lost a whole generation of music.

Hopefully, we have figured this out by now and can, at least, have digital masters that are faithful to the event being recorded.

Excellent. Thanks for sharing. I have that same album and have read those notes in it before. I also agree with jedrider that somehow we ended up running off in the wrong direction for a long time.

I believe that in the 50's and 60's, most listeners were familiar with what live unamplified music sounds like. As we "progressed" to the 21st century you can't even here live music when you go to a live concert. Amplifiers are used everywhere. People who have never heard a real live acoustic performance assume that detail is everything, and that is what the multi-miked digital recordings give you, but they don't sound real (at least to me!). (Of course there are exceptions.)
