As a high school senior in the late '50s, I enjoyed Tjader's mambo records on the Fantasy label, but those are long gone. Picked up a 1987 re-issue of Tjader Plays Mambo and it still does it for me. A couple of interesting things about this record, aside from the color. Eight of the twelve cuts are in stereo and four are in mono. There were three different sessions. The mono cuts still sound good and full. Four of the stereo cuts feature the Woody Herman trumpet section of the time. I'm guessing around the late '50s. Real crisp sounding. The other curiosity is the slit in the cover where the record goes in and out is at the top rather than the side. Weird. BTW, colored surfaces sound NM, bought from an amazon re-seller.

I love OJCs, doesn't matter what color they are. I've never got a bad one, they all sound terrific. |
The only Cal Tjader record I've ever found is on Red Vinyl, posted on April 30, 2016 at 09:12:54 | |
Tjader must have had a thing for Red Vinyl. |
