Does anyone know of a vinyl recording (ideally that you like) of Gnossiennes 1-6? Appreciate recommendations.

on a Steinway Concert Grand D-274. Released 2013 from Brilliant Classics label. Engineering/Mastering: Pianomania

Naural and atmospheric modern digital recording. Plenty of air and excellent frequency extensions that gives a sense of space and acoustics. Relativley quiet vinyl surface but they are some noisy spots.

Also older Cicolini's recording should be easy to get in vinyl from the early 80s.

Interesting about this slow tempo is that once I get used to it, it no longer sounds so out of place. Veen creates the space that time stands still. In today's instant gratification world, I certainly understand it can be excruciatingly tedious. This is the space I could not be in it 10 years ago for sure.

The composer did no specify the exact time and void of bar division so everything is pretty much leave it up to the artist who interprets the score.

At times it does seem a bit self serving but it's a perfect tune for a cold rainy Saturday for me.

Did you get the vinyl release?
I was pleasantly surprised how nice it sounded creating a decent piano in the room sound in my living room.

1896 tuned piano has a flatter and less resonance but feels much more intimate sort of like listening to excellent mono recording over a modern Steinway.

Nah, streamed it over the internet. After about 15 min., the wife, who LOVES Satie, said "that's enough". :-)

Funny thing is that I am so ODed on Satie when I was young, I rarely listen to his music much.

But this one was sort of interesting because the music created an acoustic space that suspended a reality for the duration. ( I swear I was sober, too! ) :D

I never could find a quiet copy - it was among the last of the US domestic Philips issues before they started importing the pressings form Europe AFAIR.

There's really nothing wrong with the Ciccolini performances either IMHO.
