I sure would not at the level required to get one. If I could get one for ~ $100, I'd bite. I don't guess it is any great record player but it is cute and I suppose it works.

Why a stepper motor?

What is the mumbo-jumbo about not needing anti-skate compensation? I suppose you can get by with out, my Grace 940 doesn't have it, but the vertical configuration does not have anything to do with that.

Statically balancing the arm and using a spring for tracking force is not their invention. My mid '70s B&O Beogram 3000 does that.

Bit too much hype and not enough real info to suit me.

My experiences with Kickstarter projects have been mostly negative - some exceptionally so.

One thing the bad experiences have had in common was an overwhelming response - wildly exceeding the funding target - which seems to lead to wildly delayed delivery, if delivery ever even occurs.

So, no, I wouldn't fund such a project. However, given what appears to be zero acountability for Kickstarter promoters, I'd be more inclined to come up with some other dumbass style over quality/function idea that taps into the apparently vast hordes of hipster cash waiting to be plundered by "reimagining" something "vintage" into something that sits comfortably on a piece of Urban Outfitters furniture in a loft apartment and works just long enough to produce the youtube video.

I like the idea of a compact nice looking self-contained table, it could be useful somewhere and is so much better than a Crosley.
However the vertical orientation reminds me of the difference between a grand piano and an upright. When you play a grand you are pushing against the force of gravity when you strike the key. However with an upright the hammer is oriented vertically and strikes horizontally--no gravity. So they have to use a spring. A spring is in no way as perfect as gravity (at least for piano striking I can attest to that). I would think it might be similar in the tonearm, in that a spring would have negative effects on the pickup.
At least with a piano, you are going the upright route to save 15 sq feet of floor space and thousands of dollars. Here it seems like you are saving a 6-8 inches of table space, and no cost reduction. I can't see any other reason than it looks different.
Despite that, if someone gave me one I'd probably have some fun with it.

It may well be for kids who grew up thinking their phone and a pair of $9.99 buds are hi-fi. But, for us old farts ...pure BS.

However, if they can get a few samples off to reviewers and it sounds good and doesn't break after 5 LPs, then I would probably buy one.
