I purchased a Vinyl Flat record flattener with the Groovy Pouch but didn't receive it yet.

I have one question (there will be more):

According to an Internet source, "The table in the Vinyl Flat instructions suggests heating a 128-gram record for 70 minutes at 130 degrees F and then cooling the Vinyl Flat for 45 minutes before removing the record from the Vinyl Flat and trying it on your turntable."

How should I cool a record if I use the Groovy Pouch? Should I keep the Vinyl Flat in the Groovy Pouch or should I remove it from it and let it cool inside the Vinyl Flat for approx. 45 minutes, then open it and try on the turntable?

take it OUT of the groovy pouch (use mittens), and let it totally cool down while still IN the vinyl flat...and let it cool for a loooong time. then remove it and play it.

btw....i just cook every warped record for about 12 hours, then cool for another 12, then voila...warp gone!

the maker is VERY conservative in his suggested cooking times, as he (understandably) doesn't wanna get ripped for wrecking your records! lol

Thank you.

I understand the following:

Placing the record for only two hours will be totally useless and I should not be afraid to place it for at least 4 hours for the first time...and the record won't be fried.

Does the Groovy Pouch have any scale for Degrees F? I should convert it and set to 40 or 50 decrees C (our locally adopted value), correct?

the pouch does NOT have a temperature adjustment control, and i dunno that it makes any difference 'where' in the world a person would be using it (in terms of C vs F, etc). prolly best to just call or email the maker in Kansas and ask him.

also...i have the original model of VF. his 'current' model is advertised as 'improved' in terms of weight/size of the Flat unit, supposedly to improve (decrease) time needed, etc....so i can't tell you how YOUR unit might respond.

best is to place your record into the VF, then in to the Pouch, then plug it in to the wall, TRY the minimum recommended times, see how they work for you, and go from there.

just repeat the process, using longer cook/cool times, if your initial session isn't enough. all of us users seem to have a different approach, in terms of time cooking/cooling, etc, so just play around with it and see how YOU like to use it. i've NEVER had a problem with melting/damage of any kind from this unit and it's Pouch, as it warms very slowly...and not very 'hot', so i wouldn't worry too much about that. again, just start with the minimum, and increase in subsequent sessions if your record hasn't flattened. i've never had to do more than two sessions on a warped record, and nowadays, using my 12 hour method (again, on MY unit), i only need one session per record.

It is the rate of cooling that is important - removing the VF from the pouch will increase the rate of cooling relative to disconnecting the power supply and leaving the VF inside the pouch.
If you really want to ensure that the records retain the new "flat" state, don't be in a rush to play the record at the earliest opportunity!

Thanks.

I figure that the Groovy Pouch has a fixed (not adjustable) temperature.

I also understand that 180G records would require a longer heating period. Correct?

...on what type, how severe, and where the warp is located.

again, YOU just have to experiment with what works best for you.
