....and he's not getting any nibbles. I doubt if eBay is the appropriate marketplace for this sort of item.

He did manage to unload a pair of Sonus Faber Stradivaris for $25,900, but that's probably near the upper limit on eBay.

A 90,000 dollar turntable is like a 40 million dollar house. They are both going to be on the market for a while. Not many folks with the cash to lay down for that. And those that do have that kind of money have plenty of options to weigh before they pull the trigger.

Did you check his other audio he is selling?
Check it out if you got the time, deep pockets.

It's been on Audiogon several times, no takers. Not surprised at the price, of course. If I have that much cash, it won't harm my bank balance to buy new.

It's probably Fremer's now that he has decided that a plinth-less table is the best :)

...which high end belt driver is the "Absolute King" of the belt drivers.

IIRC there are challengers to the Continuum:

Tech Das Air Force One

Clearaudio Statement

Walker Audio Proscenium black diamond V

It seems the Walker gets less press these days, but I suspect it still has a loyal following and.....is available for less money.

Other thoughts:
The Continuum comes with the top of the line tonearm (weird looker) and the Castellon TT stand (complete with mag-lev isolation).

Fremer, up until his most recent reviews, remains loyal to 'his' Continuum Caliburn...but he did modify his Castellon stand to hold a Minus-K isolation device.

I wonder which one wins overall....

Just woolgathering. Dealers can relax. I'm not in the market.

...which Fremer has never reviewed. A.J. is not big on sending out review samples, but it is probably a formidable turntable.

The best ones I have actually heard myself are the Kronos Sparta and the VPI Direct Drive, but we're talking big league here.

Now **that** is ridiculous. You could hire a driver to personally deliver it anywhere in the continental USA for less.

There will be more than one wood crate to hold and protect this expensive assembly of gear. Several hundred pounds of crated gear to be air-freighted around the globe.

but then I realized all the work that needs to go into shipping this thing. 2K is still a tiny bit steep, but not insane. For 2K I would fly out there myself and listen to it before taking it home.

I did not know he (Mikey) ever even wrote about that model.

Art Dudley, on the other hand, does own one and occasionally refers to it in reviews of other components and accessories.

Is the item location. But the shipping cost quoted is for worldwide. Maybe the ad has been amended since you posted as shipping now reads $3K.

Yes, but it'll cost $$$ to fly it home with you as the airline are unlikely to accept several large wooden crates as hand baggage.

insuring something that is 89k for shipment I'm sure is adding to that figure.

It's a ridiculous price for shipping

RE: the key word is "shipped"...., posted on April 23, 2015 at 10:09:34
....as in on an ocean going ship. Appropriate for automobiles, maybe not so much for 2nd hand audio gear. Imagine a crew of uncouth sailors on the freighter with the big "Maersk" logo on its bow handling your crates filled with $90K of merchandise and they don't have a clue, or care, what it is.

Try shipping a car via FedEx air.

On land shipping can mean hiring a trucking company to move your gear from one place to another. Depending on the size and weight of the gear it may be a better choice than going with FedEx or UPS. But which trucking company to trust!

It has been on eBay for well over one year.

RE: I am aware of it...., posted on April 23, 2015 at 12:25:45
but...as you note, not many reviews of it. Not so many of us know its sound quality. It does have an impressive suspension system.

I probably should have included it based on price. But I don't know its price. I guess I could look that up. Or. We could send an email to AJ and ask for a price, etc.

And I could have included the current Goldmund Reference. Interesting how the Goldmund Reference from the 1980's was a direct drive, and now the current reference is belt drive. Same designer in Switzerland. I'd have to dig for a review of it, must be back around 2005 - 2010 or thereabouts.

Some disagreement among reviewers. Last I checked J. Valin at TAS still liked the Walker. Mikey at Stereophile still likes his Continuum. H. Pearson, before he died, really liked the Tech Das Air Force One.

And all of these reviewers claim to be some sort of "authority". But they tend to not agree on all things turntable.

No the car thing doesn't work. The 3 piece TT and stand and the crates to ship them easily weigh 500 pounds. $2K is in line and we don't know the source country overseas. The TT is NOT in the USA

Let's Review, posted on April 24, 2015 at 15:27:41
It rotates at, hopefully, a more-or-less constant 33-1/3, 45, and 78 rpm.

With any luck, the rumble/noise floor is down by at least 70 dB.

Hmmm... pretty much any turntable over $300 meets that criteria.

Soooo... what does the other $89,600 do?

:)

Having "shipped" delicate equipment overseas I can tell you first hand that cargo is treated with far more care on the ships than they are on the airplanes. What you lose is time. no one handles cargo in a more Neanderthal way than the folks who work for the airlines. I have also sent large and delicate gear by plane over seas. The 2,000 dollars is ridiculous.

It makes a $3,000 turntable look like a bargain.
