Influenced by the Orbe/Gyrodec quite possibly.

I think it's meant to protect the cantilever and stylus from impacts from below.

How quaint. And probably very useful.

Are you saying that you like the table, or that you don't like the table?

an old man hand stabilizer. You rest part of your hand there to limit the shaking and steady your old man hand while you put the needle in the groove.....

they are asking for it.

Form follows function.

I also think a lot of high-end stuff is downright ugly.

It does protect the cartridge and stylus from side and under impacts, as well as providing a hand rest to manual cue, which is very handy. It can be easily removed for cartridge setup if desired.

Hi

The form factor is the same as the entry-level SME 10, the suspension resembles the system used on the 20 and 30. The model 10 uses polymer bushes for isolation instead of the true suspension on the top models.

Though expensive, all these decks are clearly very well engineered and finished. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, of course!

My comment is rather simple and very straight forward. After years of audiophile obsession, I have boiled down my World view to a couple of simple beliefs.
SME is all about serious high quality through serious engineering and sweat, and Ortofon makes fantastic cartridges.
Expensive, yes, but...if you can purchase one, you will have it to enrich your life for years and then SELL it for more than you paid for it.
What's not to LOVE about that?

Looks like an upgrade to the SME 10.

Gotta love built in hand stabilizers..... that would let me do away with the box I currently use. At a cost though...
