I have done a few seraches on the Sp25 here and have only found a few enthusiasts, and a few naysayers as well. I had a look on the Vinyl Engine and the specs seem identical, or very close to the Sp15 and basic Sp10 Mk11- only the markIII and sp10A are significantly better. Yet the Sp25 was, and remains, way cheaper than the others. As I have an opprtunity to get an Sp25 I wonderingif anyone has heard them incomparison

I wouldn't expect the SP25 to emulate the build quality of an SP10 Mk2 or 2A, let alone that of a Mk3, regardless of the specifications accorded to each. Nor was it ever meant to do so. This is not in any way a criticism of the SP25, which I gather can be made to sound excellent.

with a little bit more torque a bit larger platter= more inertia. Same electronics, bearing motor. You can do more with it than a stock sl-1200.

Throw in the motor and you've got one hell of a set-up. And certainly one worth building a nice plinth around.

I havn't done a comparison between the SP-25 and SP-10Mk2 but if both were in factory configurations with Technics plinths and tonearms the edge would have to go to the SP-10Mk2 but not by a country mile. If your not aware of it the SP-25 can be upgraded with KAB SL-1200 modifications. With a Technics SH15B plinth and EPA tonearm the SP-25 (SL-1025) is quite a respectable/reliable performer.

I knew that, the message was to Dave who has been talking about putting together his table forever, he said he would bring it, so i can help him put it together.

I still have the SP 10 MKII sold my SP25 because i was to lazy to make a plinth for it. And what is the point of having it when i have the better of the two. The things i did not like about the SP25 can be remedied, I think some of the substructure around the motor is a bit flimsy, but that is also true for the Sp-10, a bit of reinforcement there would be a good thing. I was thinking using a hard epoxy to fill some of the cavities. but that is for another time, and when it comes back from the shop. Kinda reminds me i have too many things in the shop lately....
