at HPB $3.99, suite nos. 1 & 2. In a word, glorious. Would anyone like to donate vol. 2 & 3, so I may have a complete set? Thanks! : ) - Jim.

Back in the very late 1990s, when I decided I needed to broaden my classical horizons, a few close audio friends hipped me to Pierre Fournier. He immediately became my favorite cello soloist.

Now, a quarter-century later, he remains so.

I have all his Bach solo suites ... alas, on CD only.

I'm happy to read that you found these discs.

Years ago i got lucky on the flea market and scored the Anner Bijlsma set for a song. Rare repertoire the solo cello suites just like the solo voilin partitas.

Hi Jim, if it helps with the hunt some of the Archiv Fournier Cello Suite LPs were packaged as part of a large Bach collection for libraries, and those covers are much plainer. I found my set (the plain ones) in a dollar bin in Philadelphia and love them.

Great set, one of my favorites (I only have it on CD, alas). Also check out his Beethoven cello sonatas, which he recorded with Schnabel in mono and Gulda in stereo.

Hi Jim, I've seen some of those Archiv issues mostly in HPB. Not found the Fournier's yet. I was excited to see the album with suite nos 1 & 2 & flipped carefully thru all the classical records carefully twice with hope against hope the other two volumes would be there somewhere, nope. 's okay, though, I'm so glad to have found this one!

Regards,
Jim

Thanks. I like Rostropovich & du Pre a lot, and I have the Casals' set of the Bach suites, which are wonderful, but I think Fournier is my favorite cellist as well.
