I have just tried the iphone turntable speed app on my big pioneer motor unit, as I am getting ready to start setting it up. The phone app was originaly a fair way off, but having updated it, it gives a rock steady turn at 33.7. This is a little up on 33.7 and this deck's speed cant be adjusted, so I am wondering if that is within the realm of excellent.
In comparson my Kenwood KD500 can get closer to 33.3 using the speed setting and built in strobe, but it is not a rock steady on the speed

I was wondering if the speed being out a fraction could be due to it being a 60Hz motor (here is oz power is at 50Hz)

If the Pioneer has a mains driven 60 Hz motor it would be ~27.78 RPM on 50 Hz.

Which Pioneer? Does it have a four pole synchronous motor? If so the motor speed is 1800 RPM on 60 Hz or 1500 RPM on 50 Hz. This is fairly high so it requires a very small motor pulley. This makes belt thickness very critical.
Make sure your belt is OEM or from someone who is cognizant of the issue.
Time the platter. Precisely 100 revolutions in three minutes.

also i would trust the quartz and the pll more than the phone going around. We discussed this to death, get a test disk and platterspeed.
