I have a Leo Kottke LP " A Shout Toward Noon," and it was covered by the backside paper of another LP jacket. There was also mildew on the inside of the jacket and the sleeve. The reccord is in near mint condition, so I have started to restore much of the jacket. I treated the inside of the jacket with 100% clorox on a cotton ball held with surgeon's tweezers(cannot think of proper name at the moment), and I let that dry and air out for a month.

Tonight, I searched the internet and decided to use the hot, wet, sponge method for the paper removal. I place the hot, wet, sponge in one small area at a time thinking that doing a larger area will allow the wet area to dry out before I get a chance to scrape the undesired paper off the jacket. I am using my fingernail as the scraper by the way, and I let the sponge sit for 10 monutes on the area to be treated. So far, the method has worked beautifully(see the picture sequence below). However, I was lucky that the Kottke jacket was glossy instead of a matte finish, and I have no idea how this would work with a matte finish. I was also lucky that I found this record already separated from the other unknown record jacket. I have no idea how I would proceed with two record jackets still stuck together.

I hope others find similar results. The key is to take your time and don't rush it.
