Any experiences with the Q up lift? I need something for my Thorens td 150 mk11. I hate to sell it now that I have done improvements on it, but I need auto lift badly...

I have used the Audio Technica 'Safety Raiser' and enjoyed it's flexibility - though I can't use it with my current SME arm - the tapered arm tube is too big close to the pivot -
however it worked quite well with the previous MTT arm, and should work well on a thorens -

Unrelated - there is one for sale on the Asylum trader -
I have NO Relation to the seller....
Happy Listening

my concerns - I was pretty sure that it wouldn't work with my SME-IV.Couldn't see how it would fit in especially with the thick armboard on my VPI

I found the review of the Qup by Ed in the asylum reviews, very helpful.

I've had one mounted on my VPI for a few years and it works as advertised. It adjustable for different heights and spring release strength.

Highly recommended!

I have one. It works great. /nt, posted on October 20, 2014 at 16:46:37

I surely enjoy having one on my upgraded P3-24, but even at it's lowest strength, it pops the arm up agressively. It's not an issue, but I wished it didn't.

See ya. Dave

The September issue of TAS gives a full review on the Q Up. It is very positive.

Wrong assumption. I used the find box and typed Qup..nothing. However, by doing a google search I found a nice review by Ed, longtime asylum inmate, done in 2012. Very helpful. However it is hard to relocate even in the search archives.

I never had problems searching the archives. Just the turntable setup and FAQs answer many, many common questions yet few take advantage of them. Truth is most folks are just plain lazy and do not want to put out any effort to learn.

I tried "Q up", "Qup" and "Q up lift" as a search parameters and got nothing from Ed. If the search is so easy, what would you use?

However, I just relocated Ed's review by doing a google search of Q up and found it about 20 hits down. That is how I found it the first time.

Weird, because there were none earlier this am or yesterday..maybe our current thread
" fixed" whatever glitch was occuring in the search engine. It usually is very reliable for me, I use it all the time!

Mine works great and I can't imagine not having it. It did take some fiddling to get it positioned in the right place, to set the height just right, and to get the spring tension proper. Once set I've had no problems. Buy from Music Direct or other places with 30 day returns. No risk.

Wel, the Q up is on order..now the choice is to put it on the Thorens, as originally planned, or my Sansui sr 838. The Thorens has that "cool" factor, but I think the Sansui has a better tonearm and is built like a tank. They are the main candidates for my shop system. We'll see which fits and looks better. I presume that once it is on you don't wan to remove it. I might end up with two! But then there's the ARXA...oh, boy.
