The truth is that digital is far superior to vinyl in terms of reproduction accuracy but many people feel vinyl often sounds better.

In this case the SACD sparkles on top with loads of air and great imaging. The LP just kinda sits there.

I'd love to find a 24/96 or 24/192 FLAC version of Time out and Carnegie Hall.

I can believe it, but haven't yet experienced it myself. How about with the album in the op?

Bass extension and definition struck me right off. Higher up, pretty much a tossup, except for very top end shimmer and sparkle. Morello fairly sparkles in 24/192.

I swear a song from "Deepthroat" has stuck with me for 35 years. It went, "Bubbles! Great- big -magic -bubbles!"

I wonder if there is a soundtrack album for that movie? :) LOL

Make mine vinyl.

Jamie

OMG, just checked and they have them on ebay. I getting one just for that cruddy song!

Big speakers and little amps blew my mind!

The only reason you're ignorant of that fact is because you've never made a digital recording of a vinyl record. If you had, you would understand a lot more about digital than you obviously know now. You might also find out a few things you didn't know about vinyl in the process.

Best regards,
John Elison

i DO know that a cd burned from an LP sounds remarkably similar but physics prevent the exact replica and sound.

were you to say that 24/192 recording makes it indistinguishable, maybe, that is MUCH closer. DSD and perhaps bluray might even pass the test completely but not RBCD.

sorry John. i am not alone in this, there are plenty of much more qualified ears than mine that will stand in this line with me.

this a quote from a friend whose system includes a Walker Proscenium tt and an Alesis disc recorder capable of 24/96:

"Yup, Ellison is both pedantic and deaf."
