My birthday is coming up and my beautiful bride was kind enough to gift me $100 at my local vinyl store (Vinyl Solutions in San Mateo, and it turns out the owner Tom and I were born on exactly the same day in the same state......)...unfortunately by the time I arrived (2 pm) all of the stuff I was interested in for RSD was long gone.....hadn't seen that in the past. I did buy the Al di Meola tribute to the Beatles, All Your Life - nice production, listening to it as I write. My 11 year old stepdaughter tends to be my wingman at this store - she has told me that she wants my turntable when I die if my sons don't want it...she bought a couple of albums with her own money - Katy Perry and Michael Jackson. Fun.

why don't you buy her a table now? It is a lot of fun to rumage the vintage stuff on the asylum adds and ebay. an old receiver, EPI speakers, turntable. etc. lot's of fun for little dough.

and will do so again next week...and in this case, i HAVE to give them a table, cuz i'm giving three records...and they don't have any way to play them...yet. the groom plays (trombone) in the current lineup of the Billy Vaughn Orchestra, so naturally he's getting a few of his records...along with a Rickie Lee Jones.

(not that this has ANYTHING to do with Record Store Day! lol)

I have a feeling you may have a turntable or two to spare...:-)

Record Surplus was a madhouse, probably twice as crowded as last RSD. Did get the Yardbirds' "Little Games", but discovered when I got home that the sound quality sucks, especially on the instrumental "White Summer". I think it's because it is a colored "splatter" vinyl. Also picked up the Yardbirds' "Can You Identify These Men" on white vinyl from Get Back in Italy, which sounds pretty darn good.

Touch Vinyl still had a line of people 2 hours after they opened, but they had nothing for me.

I guess I just found the experience underwhelming. I was stoked at first about getting the last copy of "Little Games", until I got it home and listened to it. But the other Yardbirds disc was a good 'un.

One day chicken, next day feathers.

Yesterday I went to Amoeba in Hollywood around 1pm and the line for the RSD items was out the door extending almost a full block! I went for the new Veruca Salt 10" but not too long later learned it had already sold out. I found it and many other RSD releases on Ebay being resold at 2X - 4X prices.

And while I didn't find any of the remaining RSD items, I had a great time among the used bins and just enjoying the scene.

Came home with a VG condition Vanguard Ian & Sylvia and a wonderful mono London recording of an English brass band assembled from various locales... including men sponsored by Morris Motors.

I went out late on sat to the local record store. It was busy. I still managed to find 2 gems, "giant Steps" (Coltraine) and an "Audiophile" label jazz record). Add in a few CDs and I hit my budget limit. Overall, a nice excursion.

I went to the sweet melissa records (antiques on the square), in marietta, ga at 1030AM with store opening at 11 and there was at least 60-80 people in line at that point. There is no room in that store and knowing that it was going to be a madhouse I let it go and headed home.

I went late. There were no crowds and I got the Sun Sampler. I haven't played it yet but I am happy.

agree re the disappointment. i went out in chicago from 8am to 11am, found huge lines, and very little left by the time i got to the racks. resellers who went early seemed to grab a lot of the goods.

RSD = too many lines, too much hype, too few records.
