Ohms, that is. The bass is more powerful and resolved. The treble really opens up with greatly increased low level resolution. It sounds very natural. If you want air, you gotta try this!

I had been loading the Kansui at about 300 Ω, but never again. The cartridge's DCR is 16 Ω.

Maybe this applies to other MC cartridges, too.

Happy listening.

I don't add any load to the AT-OC9/II, my primary cartridge. Works great at 47k. No tracking problems or other anomalies that that are typically addressed with loading. No tizziness.

I did some experiments with my Benz LP the other day, with a mate who has good ears (who has about 5% vision).

The specs say load from 470-47K and I had been using 6K8. Flat out (47K) gave floppy bass. 37K and 25K were better - at 37K, the vocals were more forward ... but instruments sounded better with about 25K loading.

(My phono stage uses a parallel input pair of RCAs for loading plugs, so different values are easily changed.)

So I suggest trying some lower values than 47K. Get hold of a pair of good quality 'Y' connectors if your phono stage doesn't have the ability to use parallel loaded plugs.

Regards,

Andy

The Kansui is awesome period. We used it at RMAF, and everyone was surprised by it.

of the newly re-released Kiseki Purple Heart NOS? It's an opportunity to again buy a classic (if you get in quickly! :-)) ) ... but not if it has some deficiencies. Just as a comparison, I've been listening to a Benz LP (not the 'S') for the last 6 or 7 years.

Thanks,

Andy

Sorry, I haven't heard it.

I have a Purple Heart Sapphire.......and , posted on April 20, 2014 at 10:00:31
it really is a classic. If the NOS cartridges are as good, or hopefully better, some folks will be in for a treat.

Maybe it was before your time. Back in the late '80s HP and the boys at TAS were loading LOMCs at 47K, for awhile. I was a turntable guy at a high end shop, and naturally I had to try it. Results seem to depend on your cart and phono pre.

I was using a Monster Genesis 1000 - 0.2mV, 4ohm. It was larger than life. The big sound was good at first, but got tiring. Put on a different record and it was ridiculous. The trade off was loss of detail, focus and micro dynamics for that great big sound. It was out of control. Loud passages got much too loud and low level detail dropped out. YMMV.
