Electro-Voice "Interface" Speakers anyone?

Hello,
I was wondering if there are any Electro-Voice "Interface" owners out there. This was a consumer line of speakers that EV came out with in the early Eighties.

I own a pair of Interface One speakers that I bought used from a record store that was going out of business and had them in their stereo setup. They were an "Interface" dealer as well. So I was able to see all the other models etc... and get literature/info on them. (I still have the literature!) They probably retailed for around $400 back in '80, and I bought them for $150 in '83!

I've used these babys for almost twenty years as regular stereo speakers as well as home studio monitors to record music. The only thing I've had to do to them is have the woofers refoamed and replace the "acoustical tweeter lenses" which somehow affected the tweeter performance. They are basically thin foam rings that went around the tweeter. Probably for dispersion measures.

EV still makes a speaker similar to this called the Sentry 100A which is sold to the professional studio markets. It uses the exact woofer/tweeter setup as mine.

Anybody else like to share some stories about this short lived speaker line?

Do you have the Active EQ?, posted on March 21, 2001 at 14:40:52

Interfaces' came with an eq. It really makes the speakers nice.

First, it has a three position high frequency adjustment at 10K. Down 1.5 dB is setting 3, Flat is setting 2, and up 1.5 dB is setting 1.

The unit has a 6dB/18dB Octave boost at 35 hZ, and a subsonic filter that is 24dB/Octave below 16 hZ to keep record warp from robbing power.

I Purchased the eq from a Hi Fi store that was going out of business.

I remember the speakers well. The tweeter is made by Peerless and is the same unit that was used in McIntosh speakers of that era. The passive radiator could use another 20 grams of mass for better low-end matching.

Without the eq...they were good speakers. With it, they compared favorbly with The Heil AMT1.

Mine didn't come with EQ unit. I believe that was for the larger models. Mine were the smallest ones with an 8" woofer and the "super tweeter". Though my speakers have a little EQ knob right on the speaker front for rolling off mid -highs. It doesn't make a heck of a lot of difference. But it gave people some more control over the sound.

One thing I know is when I took the woofers out to send them for refoaming, they had HUGE magnets! That could explain the 250 watt max. handling rating.

Check out this ebay address for the Sentry 100A's. I was just scanning and found them.

My Interface have the exact speakers but in a different cab. Also mine weren't symetrical like they make them today.

As I type this.....I am listening to Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee
via a HH Scott 222d and ElectroVoice Interface B Series II speakers.
These speakers are just sooooooooo nice. Love to listen to em'.

These have the EQ...but I just leave it off....they sound flat and perfect without it.......to me.

Yes,I have heard of the interface line.I have a pair of interface c series II. they are in mint condition. These speakers in my opinion are wonderful sounding and some of the most dynamic and outrageously efficient speakers ever produced. I treat them like part of my family. It was great hearing them talked about again. what a speaker!!

All right! I, too, treat them with the utmost of respect. My cousin who actually recommended them to me almost twenty years ago, still has the larger ones with the passive radiator. And my other cousin still has the smaller ones like mine.

I remember when I pulled out the 8" woofers to send them for refoaming (foam rot had set in about four years ago), man did they have huge magnets! And I've always got great sound out of them from my twenty year old JVC 60 watt receiver. I put the volume up to 3 and they're extremely loud. I have the original literature and they spec a very high efficiency rating as well as a high power rating (250 watts)

Great to hear there are still owners out there.
