That Sherwood S-1060 I bought was down in Ferndale near Detroit.I live 90 miles from Detroit and shipping was 13 dollars for a 28 pound package. You would think it would go to Flint and from Flint to Saginaw but no.It went to Warrendale Pa. LOL. It is no mistake because this happens a lot when I buy from Detroit and pay standard shipping thru USPS.

I live Dayton Ohio. I purchased some Transistors from a local online electronics liquidator, less than 10 miles from my house. The parts went to Cincinnati and then back to Dayton. 100 mile round trip.
Insane.

That's because the big carriers use "hub & spoke" routing. You might recall in the early days FedEx had ONE hub - Memphis. ANYTHING sent FedEx (it was Federal Express back then) - even say from Chicago to Milwaukee just 90 miles north - would go via Memphis. Now they have many more hubs as does USPS, and the cost of routing it through an efficient hub is actually lower than point-to-point routing.

I'm watching one that made it to Kansas City, left, came back 6 hours later, waited 18 hours and set off again. Delivery date changed 3 times, now it shows question mark.

My favorite was a PCB, end-of-life, that I accepted an order from as part of a system for factory in Asia. I accepted the order because I found one at a surplus place that had bought out an obsolete inventory. Turned out they drop shipped it from 60 miles away and it never showed up here. I had it tracked, complained etc., they sent my money back which I didn't care about, it was the order which I accepted that was the problem. I spent lots of hours trying to find another one anywhere in the world. Four months later the one I ordered shows up at my door. Shipper delivered to wrong place, sat in a warehouse somewhere until someone tripped over it, realized it wasn't theirs and returned it to shipper.

Decided I should be in the shipping business, would fit right in.
