This is a 60 watt mono that takes six EL84s and even tho I have five of the 36 watt versions,I always wanted the 60 watt version.

Punchy 6BQ5 audio. It should sound great with lots of reserve.

That's a clever idea. EL84's have so much emotion.

which brings up the question- is there an amp with 2 matched quads of EL84s per channel?

Cool amp! Never seen that one before . . . I wonder how many were made? I'm always amazed at the number of variations the Sherwood engineers came up with! The mono amps, especially, had numerous configurations of output tubes.

I have five of the 36w mono integrated amps and they are called the S-1000 and have four EL84s in each.

Two matched quads per amp would be 8 per amp. I think there is a current production amp that uses eight 6BQ5s but it's stereo so still 4 per channel.

Another of the cool Sherwoods is the (forget the model number) version that has the mono amp paired with a stereo preamp that was made to be used with their 360 power amp if the customer wanted to upgrade to the new stereo technology.

I meant eight EL84s in one channel. I have a pair of HF-32s (4 EL84 mono Eico integrated amps), haven't done anything with them yet though. I love the tube, so I'm intrigued to see how your new six tuber(s) work out.

... they combine AES and RIAA equalization as if they're identical, which they are definitely not.

as to rockdoc Q, yes there are at least two amps with quartets of 7189, the Sherwood S-360 and the EICO HF-30. Both are rated at 30 watts per channel. There may be others but those are the I am familiar with.

And later of course are the VTL TTs MK1 and MK2 which used a quartet of EL84s, but the OPT and power trans on these is much smaller than the EICOs.

That 1060 amp you found Mike is very interesting, Never knew sherwood made something like that, but then can't find hardly any info on the 360s either. Very nice find!

There are many who think 60-100 watts of EL84 power would be supreme.

tks

Right here Randy. You can also get them in 1.2kv but it isn't necessary.
