Hi, I come here in hopes to find some info on an amplifier that I picked up at an estate sale. I can find almost no info about this on the net, and not one picture that matches it.

The only mention at all is an auction from 2015 where apparently an amp that matches mine (same badge per description, pictures are gone) sold, minus the power supply unit.

This one is complete down to the umbilical cord that connects the power supply to the power amp. Somebody added a US power cord to bypass the English pignose plug.

I would love to learn a bit more about what I found here. Anybody know?

Thanks!

No, that's not me. Wow. I can only assume that was posted by the people selling the amp.

Thanks for this link, I'll read up on it.

Fair enough, but if the seller was fishing around here..., posted on December 4, 2016 at 18:05:32
...they would've been sensing that the amp had real collector value. Why would they then sell it at an estate sale? Especially since they said that they were taking offers and would sell it in December.

My guess is that the lady who ran the estate sale posted here to find out about it. The sale ran for three days and she didn't have a price on the amp, she wanted bids. She knew it wasn't junk, but she didn't want to deal with selling it online. Told me she'd been burned by the ebay/PayPal system before.

I was the last man standing and hauled it off at the end of the sale.

That's the story, I have the amp now. And, it is December.

Congrats, very, very, nice piece. You did good! nt, posted on December 4, 2016 at 18:11:55

Well, there must be at least 99 of them. Both the power supply unit and the amp I have have matching serial numbers of 99.

I appreciate all the input, thanks.

So I guess my chances of finding another one for a stereo setup aren't exactly great?

Bad news, serial numbers don't always start at the number one. It would be cool to mate it up though...., posted on December 4, 2016 at 18:33:39
....but then again, with a nice, early, Klipschorn, VOT, or WE speaker, you would have one hell of a mono system. Stereo is for wimps. What a great holiday present you got there.

It was an old TV/audio repairman's home. Felt really weird rummaging through a lifetime of accumulated stuff that now nobody wanted. I hauled of hundreds of tubes (nothing special, just a few picks among the bunch) just to save them from the trash. Got a few vinyl albums, some tools. Much went into the dumpster. Lots of small parts, pots, screws, connectors, I just didn't have room or need for. Kinda sad, really.

Found this today and it reminded me of this thread. Check it out 1953.

It's an English amp, it needs to be mated with a Tannoy coaxial speaker.

Thanks so much for this! Very interesting.

Do you have a bigger version of this? Or possibly a link to where you found it?

The Tannoy is a great choice, however, Goodmans Axiom 80 drivers or one of the many Wharfdale systems would also do. Of course a classic Loather system might also be interesting. i am partial to the Loather Hegemony reproducers due to the shear insanity of the design, but a single Wharfdale W90 would be killer in a mono system.

I'd certainly appreciate any underside photos.

And if you get adventurous then any detailed photos of the transformers and chokes that may show their origin (eg. Partridge models) - but that detail may be obscured by the chassis if only small cutouts are provided.
