And sounded pretty good too. The Optimus 27 was only around one year. The cabinet is only six inches deep.

I'm no fan of the Mach Ones although plenty of folks seem to like them. I never heard any three way speaker at the Shack I liked. I worked there five years as a kid starting in high school. Cheap crossovers are more problematic the more drivers there are.

I had a pr of Mach Ones for about 8yrs.I used them for DJ'ing and they never let me down. I paid 50% off at one of rat shack sales. Wish I still had them!

I worked at Radio Shack for a few years; from about 1983-86, I think. We had the Mach One's and a variety of other speakers. I only came close to selling one pair, but that fell through when the buyer's card was declined.

I worked mostly in a downtown store, and it wasn't exactly where people came to buy things much larger than cassettes and batteries. We sold few components, very few speakers, but lots of more portable radios and the occasional boom box.

One notable exception was the Minimus 7. When they would go on the two-for-one sale, which seemed to occur about once a year, they'd fly out the door, even though many people were likely lugging them home on the bus.

I remember seeing those as a kid in the local RS. I was already on my way to being an audio snob because even then I didn't want them.

We had a Newmark and Lewis in town and they carried some really great stuff. Everything from affordable to toys for the rich kids. We lived in a town that ranged from working folk to Manhattan business owners like Nathans. So they even carried exotic $$$ stuff

I never liked the Mach Ones, either. Sounded terrible. Typical cheap 3 way.

They were pretty durable. The funniest thing I ever saw was a pair a Jamaican dude actually caught on fire playing reggae with a BGW 750- 375 WPC. The woofers caught fire....I'm sure they weren't the only a thing on firevin the room. Irie!
