Hello Fellow Inmates;
My system consist of a Sansui au317 integrated amp, a Sansui tu 217 tuner,
a Technics mash cd carousel, a Akai Gx-280D-SS reel to reel, and finally a set of Utah 8" coaxial speakers in custom ported boxes, "white lightning speaker cables, also custom interconnects (DYI),the BGT from the tweak forum and finally isolation blocks.
Call me crazy.....
This system is on the cheap, less than $250 total.
I have been tweaking this stuff for years, I recently decided to wire directly from the amp to the speakers without any terminals or splices.
Now the only weak link that I see is the aforementioned Spring loaded
Speaker connections on the amp.
I was thinking of removing these clips and install a nice set of real speaker terminals that I can actually get a good mechanical connection with.
I am looking for tips and suggestions of what you would do if this was your project.
What about wiring from the amp straight thru to the speaker terminals
with one straight shot of wire? Or what type of termination would be best if I keep these spring clip terminals?
thanks for your input....

Walkstoslow, you'll be better served replacing your AU-317's thin, stock speaker wiring with 16 gauge. Did that to a 'sui 5000x receiver, along with direct-wiring pre-amp feed to amp boards. Still utilize spring-loaded speaker connection, with no aural aversion. BTW, those Utahs are great drivers. Have been using 12" Utah Cadences for nearly four decades. They were wired in Hafler front-channel-n-rear channel configuration for nearly three decades. Only use Cadences for rear-channel nowadaze in main system, where they sound lush-n-warm via 5000x amplification. Those other 12" Cadences replaced a pair of 12" Eminences, pulled from Fender FM-212 amp, in garage system with LXI amplification (direct-wired to IC-amp-chip outputs). System sounds much clearer through Cadences, with tighter bass response for good measure. 73s para Sactown

When I purchased my Sansui AU-517, I ordered a pair of speaker cables from Virtue Audio terminated as a bare tinned wire.

They mate well with Sansui's speaker terminals.

You can spend crazy money on exotic 5 way binding posts, but you probably would be happy with gold plated brass, which you can buy from Parts Express or many of the asylum supporters. Here is a link to PE assortment. Asylum supporter VH Audio can get you something more audiophile approved.

Lordy, I had forgotten Hafler, Looks like I am going to change the leads from the output to the spring terminals and try the tinned speaker wire with the spring terminals.
Would surely appreciate a pair of matching fullrangers for the back channel.
I am x-over sensitve...would really like to find two more of what I have already.
Thanks for all your suggestions, Summer is coming, I seem to solder more during the winter months. I don't think i am going to wait that long.
I will be in touch.....
