Tube amps are like women; Just because the tube fits in the socket doesn't make it right.......

Pull the rectifier tube and the distortion goes to zero percent.

If you read further in Audio Karma, you'll see the amp was modified with a pair of diodes to replace the tube. There's also a 6L6 in there with the 5791's.

Looks like a lot of work to undo all the mods.

That amp looks very clean. It seems to be in great shape all the "mods" notwithstanding. I love my ST40. Sounds great. I would restore the amp to a tube rectifier.
