I got the console today. All the gear in it is Radio Craftsman: the RC-2 Amp, RC-8 AM/FM tuner and an RC record player of some sort. Included also is the original Altec 600 8 ohm driver.

The Amp has 4,6,8,15 and 500 ohm taps on the output. I took pics as someone here in an earlier thread wanted to see the underside of it. The tuner has 10 tubes.

Yes back in the day there was Hi Z audio gear. I had this 40's Hallicrafters amp with a 15" Jensen coaxial that were both 500 ohm.

That is now called a 70V distribution system. Very common in restaurants, schools, etc where lots of small ceiling speakers are driven in parallel from a common line. Usually, each speaker has a 70V to 8 Ohm matching transformer. Also useful where very long speaker cable runs are needed.
