Thanks to Prof Samra's help with issues in my scott 299b, we were able to determine i have a bad output transformer. He was able to locate the problem in a very short time ,that i had spent many hours tracking to no solution. Thats the good news.
Now im on the hunt for a replacement. If one cannot be found what are my options? Is the unit good enough to justify the cost of two new transformers? Is there a possibility it can be rewound? Obviously i would prefer to find a used replacement.

Contact Gary Brown at TRS (Transformer Rewinding Service) and get it rewound. That's what I'd do.

Thanks Jim. I checked his site. I think rewinding will be cost prohibitive. If the amp was mint i would do it. Ill have to wait and see if a used one shows up .

Do the math. If a PAIR of Edcor CXPP25-MS-8K/23% trafos cost less than rewinding, making that purchase makes some sense. You get to sell the 1 good trafo in the unit and get some cash back.

BTW, the Edcor product would allow you to experiment with a bit of ultra-linear local NFB.

I do like Eli's suggestion. This is too good an amp to toss aside. Even if not cosmetically the best, the chassis and other hardware are already in place with a proven design.

Finding an exact match for the 299B will be tough since that model did not have a long run. You might have an easier time finding a tranny from a 222c, 222d or 299a since these seem to exist in greater numbers.

The Edcor solution is a good one too. I've used a few of their trannies in a few builds and they've worked out well. I hope you like blue.

for what it's worth, the last SE transformers I bought from Edcor used the thinner C core M-6 {excellent!}~nT, posted on March 18, 2015 at 10:55:23

Hi steve.
If you have 299b ops's i would be interested. I have alot of work into this thing. Id hate to let it go to waste. Rewind is very expensive. Edcors may work but id rather try to keep it stock.
Let me know how it goes.
Thanks
Steve

I can look for them this weekend. In the mean time, can you tell me if there are any identifying numbers on them? Thanks!
