Fisher Futura console with transistors and tubes. Surely a straight tube unit would be better. Has a Garrard Model A in it. 17 tubes, 8 transistors (all finals)

If the price is highly attractive, pulling the trigger makes some sense. Without good value, the purchase is (IMO) problematic.

All tube, except the O/P devices, has me guessing the SS is germanium and may be quite difficult to replace. Also, germanium is more fragile than silicon.

By any chance, do you have an uploadable or linkable schematic?

No I don't, just the OM from Fisherconsoles.com

I could have got it for $50. No sound. See Baltimore Craigslist.

I called him and talked about it with him. I told him to relist it for $100 and he did.

(and if it were a nice looking console style, as well)

Just my opinion, though.
all the best,

I agree, I did pass on it. My dad's TT was a Garrard A so I want one some day.

Service manual is online at Fisherconsoles.com, but you might have to look for another model with the same chassis.

I have one. They are nice. I was surprised at how quiet and smoothly it turns. I think that thy made a lot of them, to I expect another will cross your path.

It has push-pull 6V6s in the output stage and it's the one radio I have wanted for 28 years but everytime I found one,the deal would fall thru.A guy was going to trade me his for a pair of my Mac Mc60s and then two days before the switch he backed out. There is like 100 in existence and being they cost 595usd in 1954,that explains a lot.Maybe you'll have better luck.

Many of the old SS amps sound surprisingly good and if you think about it it's understandable why they did. They popped on the scene in conjunction with the great tube amps of the era so they had to emulate a good portion of the sonic footprint of their tube brethren or they wouldn't sell, especially costing much more money as they did.

but I know you don't want it. Double Conversion. Glad you posted, I wanted to ask you about that USB microscope you bought. Is it good enough to look at a stylus? See link for what I was considering buying. Thanks in advance.

Thanks as always Tom, you are always a wealth of knowledge on Vintage. I did want it but I'll wait for an all tube unit. I had a mint Grundig Stereo 390US but never used it and sold it at Kutztown in 2010 or 11 I guess.

I'm now enjoying a Magnificent Magnavox (you sent me schematics) for which I just bought a small footprint (13" X 13") Technics DD linear tracker to replace the terrible sounding piezo/ceramic Collaro. I haven't decided on a phono preamp for it yet.

I have an SX71,an SX28, an SX28A, a pair of SX62s, an SX101, and an SX115.
I also have a pair of S38s and S40s but no SX88. I guess it wasn't meant to be. Oh well. I have an SX117 as well.
The USB microscopes are fantastic but get one with the stand and plate.
The SX88 is double conversion as well but that isn't a big deal because it performed as well as my SX115 which is triple..

Since you mentioned early solid state, I happen to have a JBL SA660, which was SOTA at the time. It is one of the most beautiful pieces of audio kit that I have seen, both inside and out. They used to sell for quite a bit of money, but I don't think they are as valuable now. Mine is all original, but I have been considering getting it up and running to drive my JBL L110, with their beautiful and rebuilt alnico woofers. Since it has oil caps it might not be that difficult. It will need filter caps, diodes and possibly some out of spec resistors. What do you think?

.. most auctions I've watched since I decided I'd like to have one to drive my Heathkit Lancer 99-clones usually end up at or plus $1000, there's one on the 'Bay now for $1800 OBO.

It IS super-cool-looking, but I've got too many projects to bring in a piece I can afford, and I don't want to afford the ones that don't need work - for that kind of change, I'd go for something like a late-model McIntosh, a Threshold Stasis, or a Citation II core. Obviously, though, I'm not a well-financed, obsessive JBL or MidCentury collector ;)

We will have to see what he gets. If I can unload it for big bucks, I will, but If it keeps sitting on the shelf staring at me ... For something like this, finding the right buyer is the problem if I decide to sell it. I think the right buyers are all in Japan! If I do decide to get it working, I will keep it as original as possible. Right now, I am working on my dryer!
