I had to adjust the face plate so the door would open and close but it's the most analog sounding CD player I've heard..Its an ARC CD-2...It doesn't play SACDs but it sounds so relaxed and gentile and transparent..No I didn't get a remote.

Robber! :>D You should be able to make a "universal" remote function.

The CD2 is a wonderful sounding CD player.

I miss mine.

Would you take fifty bucks for it ?

;-)

Yes, I didn't reply given my inability to accommodate you. There are some NJ residents who post over on DIY Audio. Perhaps 1 of them can be helpful.

All I see, and I go to 2 or 3 a week, are DVD players, VCRs, and Emerson type speakers. I donated a crappy Yamaha cassette deck I picked up in a small lot of gear I bought at an estate sale and never aw it on their shelves.

Great score Mikey, good to know some good stuff still makes it to their shelves.

You have to understand that old CD players are looked at like computers. They are usually sold for next to nothing and being this one only plays standard CDs,they no doubt figured it was not worth much.

Hi Mikey,

That gives me heavy competition for the LP12/ Grace 707 that I bought for $38. You have given me hope that I might make a big score again!

Look closely at those DVD players. I got a very nice Marantz universal player for around $20. The video guys consider them obsolete because they don't have Blu-ray.

The may not have realized it was a CD player. In my area, they will put out anything with rack handles because people will buy it for the box. When I bought my Yamaha C-2x preamp at a pawn shop, the young woman selling it to me asked me what it was!

You should have offered them $10 if it was missing the remote.

As always Mike, you walk away with some of the greatest deals.

Im never bothered as I know you genuinely get into this stuff. And you refurb so much of it.
The guys who mercilessly hunt for deals only to immediately flip it I could do without. Guys who hunt deals to try it out. Learn from it. Relay their experiences to others. And best of all, refurb it for years to come. They I like.

Again got to call ya up and catch up. Its been too long. Ive allot to share.

Yeah the CDB650 is well documented on the net. But this mid 80s BSR is a real head scratcher. Also found a japan BSR CD and Cassette unit a while back.

Enjoy my friend

Oh, you lucky so-and-so! I just had a bit of luck at Goodwill this weekend too, check out this uber-80s AIWA mini component system. The thing was complete with remote control and I picked it up for $45. What a nifty thing, it has all individual components that plug into a stand which has all the wiring inside it via DIN plugs. Included is an auto-reverse cassette deck that has just about the fastest reverse I've ever seen, a nice sensitive tuner with great sound and timer functions which control the entire unit, a cool but somewhat dated preamp with a graphic EQ and electronic volume control with increments that are too big, and a beefy little 60WPC amp with a toroidal transformer and sizable heat sinks. The little amp alone weighs 11 pounds. And then of course, the coolest part, the linear tracking turntable which sits on top. All of it can be controlled from the remote. So 80s. So cool.

The LX-110 turntable is missing from the picture because it's taken apart awaiting the new belts to arrive in the mail. So far, I've had to fix seized up grease in the tape deck on the pinch roller pivots, and repair a few tiny cracks in plastic transport pieces. It's a very good sounding deck, and startlingly fast. The preamp unit has the remote IR sensor, and it wasn't working at all. The remote unit was one of those older modular types, with the sensor and driver circuitry all stuffed into a metal shield and soldered shut. After getting that open, I discovered that a cap had leaked and the goo ate through a trace on the PCB. A tiny jumper and a 47@16 cap, and it works like new. Haven't hooked it up to speakers yet, but the headphone outputs sounds *very* good, I dare say even hi-fi.

Anyway, gotta love Goodwill sometimes. Other times I want to choke them when I see them trying to sell things for FAR more than they are worth.

I go in looking for high end universal players. I've seen a few Sonys that play SACD but they're wayyyyy , posted on January 23, 2015 at 21:38:03

Where I live, if that ever showed up in a GW store it would probably be 250 bucks or something like that. Seriously, its been 5 years or more since I've seen any audio equipment that wasn't at least double it's real value. Generic 80's AV receivers priced at 200 and up and then sit on the shelf till they've been bashed around to the point where they are worthless is pretty common. I can't believe anyone would buy any of it at their asking prices.

I wouldn't even bother to go there if it wasn't for the used records and CD's.

As I've stated, people look at CD players as obsolete that continually drop in value like computers..The unit had issues and it doesn't play DVDs or SACDs and I'm sure that played a part in its pricing.

I wish I had caught that one, but my wife would have probably divorced me when I dragged the Belles in! Man that is a hall.

I have a CDB650. It is a beautifully made CD Player. Mine needs some work. I was going to swap a transport from another Magnavox CD player.
