You would be better off using DeOxit from Parts Express, or where ever. It not only cleans but it lubricates without gumming up.

Radioshack is fine if you are in a pinch. But not for the good stuff.

Caig labs sells Fader D5 that works well as it cleans and also lubricates.
DeOxit works better on metal parts, but maybe ProGold would work on potentiometers.

Just google Caig Labs and order a can. I don't believe RatShack sells Fader D5, they sell only ProGold and DeOxit.

CaiLube was the previous product but was updated by Fader D5.

Happy listening!

thanks, it's for a 20 year old yamaha and radio schack is close. I'd probably have to order deoxit online.

that's what I would use. So, you aren't dissolving any carbon or lubricants within the pot. Safer on plastic parts seen in many pots.

however, I find opening the pots up, cleaning with IPA on a qtip and a topical application of D5 (deoxit) on the contacts and carbon track to give excellent results, you may also need to add some fader grease when the pots have that in it (of course you removed the grease when you cleaned the pot when open with the IPA qtip because it was dirty...) to retain the smooth "feel" the pots have...
