Last weekend, I picked up a Revox B790 for a song, but it, but it is not without its problems. It looks very good but the buttons that move the cartridge left and right do not work. I have the service manual that I downloaded from the Studer site, so I think I can fix it. An exhaustive internet search tell me that I should change all the capacitors (not that many) and clean the socketed chips.

It has the original Ortofon cartridge. I will probably buy a new needle rather than going through the extra gymnastics to change the cartridge, even thought they cost $120 (ouch!).

I used to sell Revox in the 80's, so I am psyched to finally own one. The build is incredible! All in all a great find, which are becoming few and far between lately.

This is not my actual table but this is what my table looks like. Mine came with a felt mat instead of the original Revox mat. I'd like to have the original Revox mat, but I will probably take Penguin's (Vinyl Asylum) recommendation and get Herbie's Way Excellent Mat for it. I am very lucky that the paint on it has not turned tacky.

I wouldn't mind finding the matching CD player.

I saw one years ago when they were fairly new,but since I never could afford one I just kept walking!Have been using Magnavox CD players ever since & have never looked back! I have 2 Magnavox CDB492's,1 Magnavox CDB 500,& my favorite Magnavox is a CDB473 with the original Remote!Check out what this EBAY seller had to say about the CDB473! I would love to find a Magnavox CDB650 with the original remote & owners Manual for my collection! But they always go for big bucks, even on our local Craiglist when they do show up!Ever use a Magnavox CD Player?Best bang for the buck sound wise & build quality to me!

I am pretty sure I have a working one of those. I should dust it off an give it a listen. I may even have a 650 but I am not sure. I have some higher end Magnavox CD players with dead transports, that I was going to put the 473 transport in. I am pretty sure one is a 650, because it has the flip down program keyboard. I should probably give the 473 a chance before I do anything, but the 650 is probably better. I also like the Sony ES players.
