Last weekend, I picked up a Revox B790 for a song, but it, but it is not without its problems. It looks very good but the buttons that move the cartridge left and right do not work. I have the service manual that I downloaded from the Studer site, so I think I can fix it. An exhaustive internet search tell me that I should change all the capacitors (not that many) and clean the socketed chips. It has the original Ortofon cartridge. I will probably buy a new needle rather than going through the extra gymnastics to change the cartridge, even thought they cost $120 (ouch!). I used to sell Revox in the 80's, so I am psyched to finally own one. The build is incredible! All in all a great find, which are becoming few and far between lately. Dave |
