You all seem so knowledgable maybe you can help me.
I have a BIC SP-65, Series Z, Serial number 551963-673-4979 changer. I removed the snap ring from the center of the turntable but I can't pull it off no matter how hard I try! I sprayed some WD 40 in the area but no help! Am I missing something or is there another way to get into the guts of the machine so I can free everything up, possibly change the belt, etc.

Thanks,

Harris

That's a coincidence, I just had the same problem with a BIC 980. The platter wouldn't turn at all and I couldn't lift it up, either. Apparently, whatever lubricant they used on these things gums up with age. When I gently but firmly, with two hands, got the platter to turn I was able to work it off the table. Now it spins fine. Good luck. There are some threads about this in the forum at Vinyl Engine.

the service manual for your table should also be there.

Geoff,

Thank you so much for directions to the forum discussing my problem. In it was also a link to the Service Manual. Now I'm all set & confident I won't break something when I work on getting the table off.

Thanks to the help this forum has given me I was able to remove the turntable & now everything is working properly except when using the BIC in the record changer mode it drops the needle at 7" rather than 12". Can you suggest what I need to do or where I should go to find out?

Thanks again,

Harris
