Was wondering if anybody know what other models would fit the citation I preamp. tha one I bought had no cover.

Thanks in advance. cant spring for another citation I unless its a real junker.

I would just use it as is but there seems to be a buzz as a result of it being missing.

BTW the phono section on this is something special. i am about to rebuild soon but will love to hear it in its original state to be able to give a fair comparison after the rebuild.

thanks everyone

Hi,

Mine are very quiet with both covers removed even under a fluorescent shop light. Check the caps in the power supply.
I do not believe any other covers fit. The top cover is a simple "c" shape when viewed ways ways. Anyone with a sheet metal break could fabricate one for you, then drill the holes for the attaching screws. Any sheetmetal shop or heating and cooling business could bend one for you if they are willing.

I don't quite remember but I think the Citation IV is the same size. I think I bought a IV for the wood cabinet, as you seem to have, and used it on a Citation I. I don't have both here to check for sure.

Hi,
I have both the Citation IV and I preamps. The IV top is totally different, just a flat piece of metal, unlike the C shaped Citation I cover..

Hi,

I would start by contacting Jim McShane. He's a forum sponsor and Citation expert who sells rebuild kits and parts for these units. Anyway, perhaps he can be of assistance. See the attached link to his site..

Regards,
ck

Hi

The previous posters are correct, the top covers of the I and IV differ as described, but one could be fabricated quite easily.

Enjoy the phono section, but I have rebuilt 5 or 6 of them in the past 2 years. Trust me, when you re-cap it and change a number of key resistors it will be far quieter, more dynamic, and just quite a bit better than the stock. Check out the McShane kits, they are good value for the citation I and sound great. If you can solder, then for a few hundred dollars you can turn that thing into one heck of a preamp, especially the phono section.

cheers,
Don

Hi,

I just wanted to post an addendum: While the covers for the I and IV are different, The factory wood cabinet for the I, III and IV are the same.

Hi,

Does anyone know how to reach Jim McShane or where I might locate a wood case for the Harmon Kardon Citation 1 preamplifier? Thanks!
