I have a few of these laying about the house so I decided to try them with the AC shunt tweak.

These are 500 mA 5Hy 26R chokes. The resistance is less than half of the recommended value.

So far, I do hear, even with these, what others have experienced, though I suspect the effect is diminished due to the low resistance.

I have ordered some of the recommended 193Ls but wonder if I attached a 15R resistor to each lead would this work or would it make a more complex filter?

Anyone have an opinion, please?

Thanks,

It ain't the resistance, it is the inductance you care about, posted on December 6, 2016 at 16:17:17

lower DC resistance for a given inductance is actually a good thing. Inductance affects AC sines and signals. DC is not a noise source. DC is bad if you have it riding on the AC but this tweak does not deal with that.

I know I am hearing good qualities from this but had no idea how much it mattered.

Mr. Maher said repeatedly that the R should approximately equal the Hz and I have no idea how all of this works together in this application.

I know I read many of your posts when this was being discussed but this specific thing was never mentioned.

THANKS very much for your help.
