THIS is the question, some say yes and others no?
They were put there for a reason, why are most of the equipment I see have no shields?
What are the advantages/dis advantages?
thanks

The traditional tube shields from the '50s& '60s were pretty tight on the tube - so they do not help with convection cooling-
They may help with 'shielding' though I have not heard an advantage -
Listen both ways and decide -
Some of the H.H. Scott shields had a spring to keep the tube securely mounted - could be good...
Happy tuning

shields keep noise, RF and IF "in" or "out", depending on the application , posted on March 9, 2015 at 10:25:04

If the circuit has a shielded socket in it, use a shield. If not, don't .

all the best,
