Hi everyone!

I'm new here having just discovered this site (thanks Rod!) What a great forum: it is nice to know others share my love of tube audio.

I am faced with a quandry that I hope the collective wisdom can help me with. I have a Cary Audio SLP-30 driving a Curcio-mod ST-70 in turn attempting to drive my not very efficient Eminent-Technology LFT-8s. According to E-T's Bruce Thigpen, the LFTs need at least 50 WPC and more like 75-200 WPC to make them sing (83 dB @ 1W). I really like the sound of the Curcio and E-Ts. One option would be build the Curcio Dyna Mark 3 mod for 55 WPC. I realize this would only provide about 3 dB more headroom than my current amp's 30 W. But given the size of my room, this may be adequate.

What other choices in the used below $1500 range are there? I've also considered ARC Classic 60, Cary SLA-70 Signature, Sonic Frontiers SFS-80, and VTL products. I'd appreciate any input or experiences with these products.

Thanks!
Steve

Consider buying 2 used c-j MV75's and running them as monoblocks. That gets you 150 wpc of tube power. They're a good sounding tube amp. I ran mine that way for a while, but recently went the other way and bought a Marantz 8B reissue. You should be able to get 2 of them for around $1500. At least that's approximately what I'm going to ask if I ever decide to sell mine. If you go that route, invest in some Svetlana 6550c's. It works well in this amp.

I'm using a Cary SLA 70B Sig with B&W 805s. Great sound, great amp. My choices out there, but you can't go wrong with a Cary. I've also heard the whole current VTL line and was most impressed.
