35 years ago, my dad gave me this article. I still read it when I need a dose of reality. Nobody could explain like Crowhurst. This may be of use to some.

Thanks for the link. I like his stuff too, but never ran across this one before. Do you have links for the other articles he mentioned?

"Designing Your Own Amplifier"

Part 1: Voltage Amplifier Stages
Part 2: The Power Stage
Part 3: Phase Inverters
Part 4a: Push-Pull Power Stages
Part 4b: Push-Pull Power Stages
Part 5: Feedback Amplifiers

There are other Crowhurst titles online in PDF, too:

"Practical Audio Design"

Part 1: Power Transformers and Rectifiers
Part 2: Power-Supply Filters
Part 3: Decoupling Networks and Voltage Regulation

"Audio Handbook No. I" (61 pages in four PDF files)

I have all of these, but don't remember now where I found them. As noted in the PEARL archive, there are many more. I'd love to have them, but don't know if they're available online. Maybe a Google search of the non-active titles in the PEARL list would locate the stragglers.

I have been looking and only found #3 and the pearl list. Please let us know if you find them.

Here's one of the titles I mentioned. I'll search for the others as time permits.

The Crowhurst Audio Classroom series was probably posted at AudioXpress at one time. It doesn't seem to be there now, but there's a note at the bottom of their page of articles -

"To request materials from 2007 and beyond, please contact customer service. custserv@audioxpress.com"

It would be worth your time to contact them if nothing else turns up.

I'll keep looking...

EDIT: Another lead is Glass Audio. Maybe that's where I got them originally. Just not sure now.

Here's an excellent general reference regarding vacuum tubes. It includes a glossary near the end with definitions; very useful for discussing VTs in online forums. ;)

Glass Audio ran these, one article per issue, starting in the June '99 issue
and ending in the June '00 issue.
